Reading Notes: Homer's Odyssey, Part B
For this reading assignment, I have continued with Homer's Odyssey, translated into English by Tony Kline. As I stated in the part A reading assignment, I have read this story before, but it has been at least 7 years. For the part B reading, I decided to focus mostly on the last little section of the story "The Sirens, Scylla, and Charybdis". I have chosen this section because it mentions sirens, and that is the topic that I will be writing about for this class. Because it mentions sirens, I will be getting great ideas for my own stories, as well as some research through Homer's Odyssey. I really enjoyed the way Homer decided to portray the sirens, and the way he told their story. I think he did a great job incorporating them into the story, and their appearance definitely had an impact on the entire plot line of the story. For my future stories, especially the main one that I will be writing about sirens, I will be able to take research and ideas from this particular story and implement them into my own writings. I can even use this section of the Odyssey in my own stories, for example, if the main character is a human who turns into a mermaid, she can be doing research on mermaids and find the sirens from Homer's Odyssey.
