Reading Notes: Egyptian Myth and Legend, Part A

For this weeks reading, I have chosen to write notes over Mackenzie's "Egyptian Myth and Legend" (link under picture). For my first note, I really liked how part A was divided into ten different stories. I tend to lose interest in stories that have multiple parts in them, so the fact that all ten stories for part A were their own separate stories was really great. I also liked how all the stories were titled. The titles were interesting enough to draw you into the story, but they did not reveal too much of what you were about to read. I think the length of all the stories was great, and there was enough detail in each one to make you feel like you went on a journey. One thing I tend to not like about shorter tales is that they can sometimes leave out details that would have made the story more interesting. When writers are writing their short stories, they will sometimes just jump right to the point instead of taking the time to really set the scene and the plot line, so stories that are short but include a lot of detail are definitely my favorite. Another thing I liked about this reading was that it was retellings of ancient Egyptian legends, so they were not just made up stories. I really enjoy reading ancient legends because I find it interesting to see how many of them still exist to this day, and if they have changed at all throughout the years. Overall I really liked this reading, and I do think I will take some inspiration and bring it over to my future stories.
