Feedback Thoughts
For this weeks assignment, we are learning and writing about feedback. As stated in our instruction post, we are hardwired to automatically respond to negative feedback in a more defensive way. We as people need to learn that it is okay to receive negative feedback and still respond in a positive way. We were given a list of articles to read about feedback, and then choose two that we liked the best and write about them as well as our thoughts and opinions on the topic.
For my first article, I have chosen Seven Ways to Crush Self Doubt by John Spencer. I chose this article because a lot of the time, receiving negative feedback can cause a lot of self doubt in ourselves. We begin to assume that we are not doing anything right and that we are a failure. This is, obviously, not true. Receiving negative feedback can be very difficult for some people, and it can be even worse for people who are already struggling with self doubt. I found this article to be very important in that it gives tips on how to get rid of your own self doubt while still being able to receive negative feedback in a positive way.
The second article I have chosen is Why Rejection Hurts So Much and What to do About It by Guy Winch. I chose this article because rejection does hurt. Rejection is something that no person ever wants, but that everyone gets. Whether it is rejection from a job, a relationship, or just negative feedback, no one ever wants to feel like they were not enough for something. This article is very important because it not only tells you about rejection and the emotions behind it, but it also gives you ways to feel better about yourself and to not let the negativity get you down.
Being a student, I have gotten rejection multiple times. Mainly in the form of my grades, but it still hurt me. I felt that I wasn't good enough for school, and I had to learn how to overcome that. I feel that negative feedback is something everyone needs in order to grow as a person and to expand their mindset. I believe that you have not lived a good life unless you have had at least one person try to knock you down. You cannot please everybody, and that is okay. You will receive negative feedback in your life, and that is okay too. Receiving negative feedback is fine as long as you know how to handle it and accept it in a positive manner.
