Time Strategies: A Skill
For this assignment, we are talking about time management. This is a skill that people are not born with, but that they have to work to get. Time management is something that takes practice and effort. We were given some articles to read about time management, and I chose to read "Four Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination" by Peter Banerjea (article link), and "How to Beat Procrastination" by Caroline Webb (article link).
I found both of these articles to be extremely helpful because procrastination is something that I am much too good at. I will procrastinate at anything and everything, and most of the time I won't even realize I'm doing it. I have a bad habit of leaving homework or studying till the very last minute, and that is something I have done all my life. Despite the fact that I hate being late for anything and I have anxiety about unfinished tasks, I will still procrastinate.
I think the things that helped me most from these articles is the tips about motivating yourself. No one is going to get anything done without the motivation to at least get started on your tasks. Another thing that is really going to help me is remembering how much I love the feeling of accomplishment. I love being able to cross something off of my "to do" list.
Personally, for this semester I think my biggest time challenge will be working around my work schedule. Being a student and working a full time job is not the easiest, and it is something I have never done before, so I will definitely have to rethink my time management skills and make sure I am allowing myself time to get my homework done on time.
