Storybook Favorites: My Top Three

(A photo I took on a plane ride to London)

For this assignment, we were told to pick three different stories, read them, and then respond. The three I have chosen are "Lost In The Woods" by Kelly Barksdale, "The Nutcracker" by McKenzie, and "The Fairy Godmother Union Strike" by Hannah Van Amburgh.

Story 1: "Lost In The Woods" by Kelly Barksdale

When I first looked at the title of this story, it already interested me because I tend to lean towards mysteries. Then, after reading about the story, I decided to take the time to read it in its entirety. I am pretty familiar with stories about people getting lost in the woods, but I did definitely enjoy Kelly's take on it. I do think the introduction did a great job of telling the readers what the story was going to be about, and I also think the layout of her blog page is the best I've seen as well as the easiest to navigate. I really appreciated that she made an "information" tab before the rest of the story. I do think this is the template that I will try to follow for my future posts.  https://sites.google.com/site/dangersoftheforest/

Story 2: "The Nutcracker" by McKenzie

I have been a dancer all my life, so the name of this story automatically piqued my interest. After reading more in the information section, I was able to learn what the story was going to be about and the plot that was going to be told. I do think the information page was very well thought out and detailed, but it made sure to not give away too much of the story. I also think this is a wonderful rendition of a classic show piece. I definitely enjoyed the image McKenzie chose to use for her post, as well.

Story 3: "The Fairy Godmother Union Strike" by Hannah Van Amburgh

Considering that I currently live and work in Walt Disney World, a picture of the Fairy Godmother from the movie Cinderella had my attention in the first second. Anything Disney will automatically have my attention. I definitely think that the information page gave a great overview of what is to be expected in the story, and I like that this is a story that I have not ever heard of before. Most people tend to see the Godmothers as sweet women, not women who are tired of being pushed around, so I enjoyed the path in which Hannah took this story. I also really enjoyed the font she used for the title of the story, and I think it fit the theme very well.

  1. I am so glad you looked at that Godmother Strike Storybook, Ashlyn: it is one of my all-time favorites for an ingenious twist on the traditional fairy tales. And of course there are all kinds of Disney possibilities, like pitching Disney to do a film they have not done before, and there are also Disney urban legends: you probably know lots of those from working there in Orlando! Some of them are just silly "fake news" rumors, but others are really cool and weird: Disney rumors at Snopes.com.
