Reading Notes: Alice in Wonderland, Part B

This post is going to be a continuation of the Alice in Wonderland reading assignment. This is a section of the story "Alice in Wonderland", written by Lewis Carroll back in 1865 (link above).
Reading A left off with Alice meeting the March Hare and being taken to see the Hatter. Reading B starts off with the famous mad tea-party. Alice follows the rushed little rabbit all the way to a funny looking tea party. There she meets a man who is wearing a marvelous looking hat, and he calls himself the Hatter. They sit down for tea and finger foods and talk about Wonderland. Alice is able to get some of her questions answered, and she learns a lot about this strange world while she is there. They discuss the queen, the other creatures in the land, and of course, the Hatter. After the tea party, Alice finds herself headed right for the queen's castle. The game of croquet is about to start, and Alice is curious to see what all the fuss is about. The queen seems to be really mean and demanding, and Alice does not like her at all. After watching the game go on, the Cheshire Cat appears and talks with Alice about the game and the queen. The king sees Alice talking and demands to know who she is talking to. The king decides that the queen should have the cat removed, and the queen calls for the executioner. The next part of the story is about the queen and her tarts. The king and queen move to a court room and Alice follows. The case is happening because the queen believes that someone has stolen her tarts. The white rabbit calls over the witnesses, including the Hatter and the Dormouse. The king and queen do not seem to believe the Hatter's evidence that he did not steal the tarts, and the Hatter ran before the officers could take him to have his head cut off. Next on the list of witnesses was Alice herself. Alice claimed to know nothing about the tarts, and suddenly the March Hare received a letter from a prisoner, the Knave. The case goes on and Alice finds herself still growing from the growing cake she ate earlier. She tried to fight off the officers, but opened her eyes to find herself laying in her sisters lap. Her sister said that Alice had been sleeping for a while, and Alice decided that her entire experience in Wonderland was just a dream.
Overall, I think it has been really interesting and fun to read the original version of this story since I have only ever seen the Disney version. It is fun to compare the two and see what was kept the same and what was changed. I still love this story and it has definitely given me some good ideas for my future writings.
